Origin A large hardwood growing in abundance in the coastal forests between Bega, New South Wales and Maryborough, Queensland. Finish Heartwood is pale brown, but northern material may sometimes have slight pinkish tinge. Sapwood is distinctively paler. Texture is medium and even. Grain is usually straight. Gum veins are common. Common Uses Decking, Poles, Flooring, Sleepers, Building Framework & Structural Plywood. Cypress Decking
Origin A small to medium softwood, sometimes growing in association with White Cypress, but often in pure stands in hilly country and on stony ridges, in inland areas of New South Wales and Queensland, and occasionally in Victoria. Finish Heartwood may have many shades of brown. Sapwood is pale yellow. Texture is fine and even. Grain is straight except around the many knots. Tallowwood Decking
Origin Large hardwood from the coastal ranges between the Hunter River, in New South Wales and the Maryborough district of Queensland. Appearance Heartwood is yellowish brown with a tinge of olive green. Sapwood is usually distinctively paler. Texture is moderately course but even. Grain is often interlocked. A distinguishing characteristic, very unusual for a eucalypt, is the complete absence of gum veins. Pin-hole borer marks are often present, as are the fibre separations known as “water rings”.
